Jake.

Who said bull dogs can’t go stretching out and change sizes? if you know of such a dog then you are indeed an Adventure Time fan.

It was my birthday yesterday and my dear friend and her sister made me this awesome Adventure Time cake!!! I was so psyched that I took out Jake and had a bit of fun with him. Let’s just say we were on our own little adventure…

If only I can keep him and eat the rest of the cake later.

I will never know why I imitated this little figure. But it was fun non the less.

You can say I am holding him right at the palm of my hands.

I can wear a collage. Can you?

Okay the title does not justify all that I have just written. Who cares? You’ll see what I mean when you scroll down in a few minutes. The picture above? It’s hypnotically trying to get you to read this.

You feel like reading…so read…read

Sunday mass ended at 7pm and we were off to the Sunday bazaar to buy some fruits. I told dad I’ll be right by the clothes stall to look at some nice tops. I found this nice collage shirt. And dad was happy enough to buy it for me since I rarely ask for anything major like…a car. Which my brother had. Oh and which by the way I drove back from mass. All I needed now was to renew my license and make bad-ass skid marks on the highway. (kidding!) As soon as I got home I laid down my new top and some black shorts from mom. Yes it seemed like a nice pairing but I wanted to alter the shorts a little bit. I made this real life Polyvore image and put my camera on self timer. I needed the selfie as a vain intervention from mundane freelance work.

De-stressing with a Donut : New Portrait

Image

Four months of intense photo editing and catalog designing, sitting down in one place and not getting enough sunlight can really exhaust you in some way. You don’t even know the details so I’ll spare you and just present the ever awesome shots Mona did for me to break away from all that work-tension. You see, I’ve been taking pictures for almost eight years now and I’m never really sure how to pose if I was the one in front of the camera with someone else shooting. We decided to make it look a bit more candid / raw type of shoot. We also took a donut break ( thank you Erica for bringing Krispy Kreme! ) and came out with these nice B&W snaps.

And there was Love, Happiness and Brighter Breakfasts!

Image

You know what they say that when you wake up next to the person you love, you feel compelled to wake-up the same way everyday for the rest of your life? Starting early with the one person you consider your partner, your other half or your “life” is something my mentor’s Don and Ivy have shared.

It was on a Wednesday morning at around 4 am when Ica and I scrambled out of bed. Our gadgets were ready the night before, so all we had to do was look comfy and get some breakfast. We met mentor Levy and Ervine down by 7/11 and bought ourselves a few breads at Pandemanila, some chocolate soy milk and anything for the road.

Image

In a short while we have met the happy couple, all smiles and ready to start our little road trip to Subic.

Don Sepe, slim built with a humble stature, was behind the wheel of the car. He was a quiet man, brief in responses but his words were all good. His eyes expressive and his smile sincere. Beside him was the every energetic Ivy Dela Cruz. Her smile was the same, only wider with delight. Her face would light up naturally like things were made of God’s good grace. She was asking question and making great conversation. They were both very interesting considering their age aligned to their success, they have done well for themselves. They were ready, the car filled with a variety of clothes, shoes and other props.

Image

Mentor Levy and Ervine were in a separate car. They were leading the way to Subic. We all went for a quick burger and bibingka break, some bathroom stops and engine heats on the road but at around 2pm, we have reached our destination!

Since my Canon 450D was still collecting dust on the condo cabinet, my battery-drained 350D was the only thing I can keep my hands on. I had made the most out of it I think and was very happy with the pictures.

My flash gun and triggers were the ones that were most used and made Ervine and mentor Levy’s shots look like it was in a fixed studio in an outdoor set. The colors were superb and well taken. Ica and I were the behind-the-scenes shooters and had a nice set of our own. The candid ones were simply the best.

The locations were done by parking on random. Places that we think were nice and sufficient for the mood was grabbed by the collar and bagged like a dog on a mail man. In other words, we were but a positive impulsive bunch of kids on a prenuptial road trip shoot. It was F.U.N !!!

We had lunch at a local Subic mall and had some beef stake and tempura at Tokyo Tokyo. My battery as I’ve mentioned was dying down so I had to ask a new friend of mine, (her name is JD, the manager) to charge a few for me. Ironically, there was a mass black out at Subic so I was left without a camera on hand.

Luckily, after getting through the many leaves of the man-made forest, I was pumping balloons and was enjoying the props making. I watched as the three shot their pictures and was observing how our lovely couple were taking their angles.

At one point, Ms.Ivy had these killers heels on her. She had expressed them as a brief beautification since they were 4 inches high. We were on guard to catch her just in case.

Posing was not easy. But Mr. Don Sepe was a natural on this. Ms.Ivy was having fun and laughing as we dodged cars when we decided to take pictures in the middle of the road. The rush something else, specially if you’re wearing killer heels!

The last three locations were the best ones. We were quick since the sun was our muse and we would like to catch her before she calls it a day. We drove up next to a pier where Ms. Ivy and Sr. Don took out these huge letter cut outs of the first letter of their names. Gigantic plastic multicolored sun glasses were also worn, making them look rather funny. (Alas these shots were on Ica, Ervine and Mentor Levy’s cams. I’ll leave it to them for other succeeding posts.)

Image

Then there was the beach! Oh yes the sun was almost down and a splash of colors were abound! Indigo, purple, orange in different hues were playing, painted on the sky above and reflected on the waters below as a small boat went passing by. It was magical.

Then we shot by the beach side were sand was between our toes as they posed beside their car. It was a bokeh challenge too as we tried to play with the far off city lights.

We called it a night and ate more burgers and some hot wings at Hotshots. God that was a good dinner! Our bites were so big our jaws were happily sore from eating! Luckily, two banana splits were order to level out the pain.

We got home by 3am, exhausted and sticky but contented and happy of the whole day. I flopped down the couch, rested a bit and thought about the wedding the two will be having. I am very much excited to say to them, “Congratulations and best wishes to you…Mr. and Mrs. Sepe! Cheers!”

When creatures stare : A curious little spider

When channel surfing between cartoons and educational television, my top most favorite would be what’s on National Geographic. I’ve dreamt of getting photo assignments to Africa, lying for hours on the hot soil, waiting for the beast to strike. Alas, after 6 resumes for 5 different positions, no approval was returned.

So I’d settle for anyone’s backyard and wait patiently for a small creepy crawly to come in. The last best shot of one particular insect was a red butterfly. But now I was truly fascinated by the many eyes of this warm toned garden spider I shot just the other day.

The curious thing about it was at first it was avoiding me and the camera, only showing it’s back when I got closer. But when I slowed my movements and the lens was down on it like an observant God, the spider looked up. Curiously turning it’s eyes as the lenses’ shutter opened and closed.

I turned right, it turned right. I turned left, and so did my little spider friend. It was the cutest sight ever. It was somewhat a small connection between human and animal. I lowered the camera from my face and observed it some more.

Sweat was coming down on my back and decided to finish my little adventure. I took a mental note to name the little creature “Spidey” and said a small dialog like, “Goodbye Spidey.” in my head. I walked off, wondering If I’ve actually said that one out loud.

Shot with a Canon 350D and a macro lens converter.

Taking the picture takers : I need a breather!

It’s been three months since our major project. Sometimes when you’re focused on something, you tend to want to veer away from it. You have to at least space out, jump from that bubble and see it like Neil Armstrong from the moon. In other words…I’m taking a break.

I don’t take breaks like most people do. Regular rest is lounging on the sofa, feet up and remote on hand, watching prime time shows or movies on HBO. But breaks also take up time. So I’m spending mine productively. If you don’t get what I’m saying, it’s high time you find a hobby.

Image

After some stretches and a few back cracks, a friend and I decided to take some “fun photos“. Luckily there is a small collection of film cameras (evidently from the seventies) collecting dust on a friend’s high shelf.

Oh happiness! It was a Yashica FX-3 and a Kodak Colorburst 250.

It was at around 5:00 pm when we started  The sun was low and the camera’s pictures were graining like crazy. After a while we sat down and chatted about general things in life, ate carb strings and a whole bread and packed everything up.

Back to work!

At least for an hour you get to appreciate things that were once taking memories. I’m not sure what these cameras took, but they sure were fun subjects to shoot! Oh the turn around!

Dog walking : Run Forest Run!

Forest wasn’t exactly running here. The man and his running shoes across America? Not this story.

It’s about a guy and his dog at around 1:00 am, and meeting them for the first time.

My best friend and I were having our nightly conversations when a furry black and white pooch was taking baby steps with it’s owner. The little pooch, is Forest. I was completely won over, bent down and scratched the back of his ear. Puppies really get to me for it was the day before I’ll be seeing our new baby puppy, Margaux.

I looked up, smiled at the guy in glasses and asked his name. Paulo.

Image

He first introduced Forest as “Forest Dump“. And to those who have watched the movie, you get the joke.

All three of us were conversing while the world rested. Instant connection was made, and our talks lasted for I think two hours or so. Time didn’t matter for a small little pup was keeping all of us entertained.

Image

A phone number was given and dinner at a Yugoslavian restaurant was soon scheduled. Which reminds me…we’ll be seeing each other tomorrow!

The pictures here are taken just yesterday right in front of our condo. Pau and I met up for a Nutraceutical that gives you restful sleep.

It was nice ending your day with old and new friends alike! Meeting people, making new ties and sharing stories during a quite night around the streets of Makati. It wasn’t like any other person would do, simply because they have to get busy and work the next day. Realizing you hold your time and spending it on things that you think matters is a blessing!

Great Sunday morning everyone!
